Manual Therapy

Hands-on mobilization and soft-tissue techniques to relieve pain and improve mobility.

Back to all services

Manual therapy is skilled hands-on treatment of joints and soft tissue, and it is one of the most requested services at our Hurghada clinic. Rather than applying a fixed routine, the therapist palpates segment by segment to find where glide is lost, then uses graded mobilisation to restore it. It suits patients whose stiffness is mechanical: the joint moves, but not through its full, comfortable arc.

How a manual therapy session runs

You are positioned on a height-adjustable plinth so the therapist can work without you bracing. Assessment uses passive accessory glides at each joint level to grade stiffness and reproduce your familiar symptom. Treatment then applies oscillatory mobilisation, muscle energy techniques and myofascial release to the tissues identified, usually with heat applied first to reduce guarding. Sessions run 45 minutes, of which roughly 30 are hands-on. We finish by retesting the movement that hurt on arrival so you can feel the change immediately.

Signs manual therapy may help you

  • Joint stiffness that eases with movement and returns after rest
  • A sensation of the joint being blocked at end range
  • Localised muscle tightness that massage relieves only briefly
  • Restricted rotation when reversing a car or turning in bed
  • Stiffness lingering after a strain has otherwise healed

Advantages of hands-on treatment

  • Immediate change in accessory joint glide
  • Reduced protective muscle guarding around the segment
  • Better tolerance of the exercises that follow
  • Precise treatment of one level rather than a whole region
  • No medication or needles involved

Session length and course

Sessions last 45 minutes. A typical course is one to two sessions weekly for three to four weeks, with hands-on frequency reduced as your own mobility work takes over.
